On the February 15 and 16, 2017 ended the Italian national path of BUILD UPON dialogue project financed by H2020 Framework Programme.

In this last workshop in Rome the participants tried to identify the strategic issues to make tenants active part of the process and to implement these processes in public administration at all levels.

The closing event on February, 16 represented the final push to reflect on the deep renovation in Italy and the opportunity to present the results of the project at the institutions.

At the round table of stakeholders in the closing event of BUILD UPON took part: Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Transportation, ENEA, ANCI, Renovate Italy, Legambiente.

In Italy the government has recognized the incentives to renovate of private houses that consider the entire building as an object of intervention in a long-term perspective. Anyhow, all the protagonists of the round table stressed the urgency of a resolution of access to credit problems, the transferability of the incentives and the entrance of private finance charges down the market transformation. As well as the professional skills upgrading to ensure quality interventions.

Among the many points for reflection, everyone has recognized the need to quantify the benefits of the renovation such as security, welfare, health and increased productivity. On this, a key role is playing from the sustainability rating system that are able to measure with clear metrics these important aspects.

Gianni Silvestrini, President of GBC Italia, praised the path of dialogue with the institutions and stakeholders of the BUILD UPON project highlighting the innovative aspects. Silvestrini also felt optimistic about the future of the construction sector in Europe for the advances that are being activated on multiple fronts.

BUILD UPON the project, through the path of dialogue, he has proposed an innovative method to address the decision-making aspects at national, open and inclusive towards all the players involved. There remains the hope that this innovation is understood and replicated at all levels, to become, in the future, a recurring practice.

In Italy more than 82 stakeholders have been involved such as organizations, associations and enterprises, (click here to see the complete list).
