BUILD UPON 4th seminar during Riga Energy days
On 14th of October the fourth BUILD UPON project workshop took place in the margins of international expo “Environment and Energy 2016”. The seminar was organized in close collaboration with Riga Energy agency as one of the events within annual month-long autumn events “Riga Energy days” – International Conference “Energy efficiency – the first fuel for sustainable and resilient urban environment”.
The main focus of the workshop was to educate the audience present in the Expo in relation to innovations and solutions for deep energy renovations and sustainable development in general. The special guests were Monica Aradeleanu from Romania and Ahmet Arcar from Turkey. Monica introduced the concept of Green Mortgages and Property tax reduction initiatives, whilst Ahmet gave an insight in Turkish process for renovation and developments under BUILD UPON in Turkey.
The participants were introduced to Latvian Renovation Startegy and its updating process and progress and voted regarding the recommendations previously discussed in first three BUILD UPON workshops. The main conclusions and according to the experts and audience present most important recommendations for a strategy that would help renovation efforts pick up and ensure quality were the following
The financial solutions for renovation strategy as well as for current implementation were further discussed during the panel discussion. The speakers were representative of the Commercial Banks Association, representative of the Ministry of Economics, Latvian Sustainable Building Council, financial development institution “Altum”, Romanian Green Building Council and Turkish Green Building Council. The main conclusions from the panel discussion included understanding that it is important to keep the pace regarding current financing and implementation of renovation projects, but also look for new and innovative future solutions, inter alia, to attract private funding sources.
The renovation debate was followed by experts’ presentations on a number of technical and research topics – low carbon strategy, green technology incubators, energy storage potential, efficient district eating networks, multi-apartment building stock and potential for complex approach to neighborhood development along with the building retrofits, financial support, project development and resilient urban development.
The participants saw a great value for the number of topics covered and the innovative solutions discussed. LSBC is grateful to Riga Energy Agency for a successful collaboration, to all the speakers for sharing their best practices and experience as well as to the audience for active participation.
